The main goals of the Music of Asian America Research Center’s education programs are to deepen our audience’s understanding of Asian America histories/experiences, and to dispel harmful stereotypes and misconceptions about our communities. Currently, MAARC is working on three education initiatives:
- Playlists for all music lovers: released every three months, some are for fun, and some contain songs that allow us to discuss one or two key aspects of Asian American history and experience. To see MAARC’s Twitter presentation about playlists, visit: https://twitter.com/i/moments/1053097061875359745. See below for additional information about playlists.
- Lesson plans for history, social studies and music instructors in high schools and colleges: the first lesson plans will be released in summer 2019. If you are a teacher or professor who is interested in writing lesson plans that uses music to teach Asian American history and culture, or if you are a teacher or professor who is in need of lesson plans to help you teach Asian American history and culture, please email MAARC at info [at] asianamericanmusic [dot] org.
- Podcasts for lifelong learners. We are currently working on a podcast series that explores pivotal moments in Asian American history through music. Stay tuned for additional information. The expected release date is October 2019.
